November is National Hospice and Palliative Care Month

November is National Hospice and Palliative Care month. Many people still attach a negative image to hospice and palliative care, but it plays a valuable role. Hospice and palliative care organizations support end of life care, advance care planning, and provide caregiver support.

Instead of "just a place to die", hospice helps patient's and their families to live their best lives. Sometimes treatment has stopped working, the patient can no longer tolerate the side effects of treatment, or the patient simply has decided to concentrate on improving the quality of her remaining life. Hospice and palliative care can provide supportive care and guidance during the transition.
