Open Enrollment on the NYS Healthplan Marketplace

The open enrollment period has begun for purchasing individual insurance plans through the NYS Marketplace. The enrollment period runs from November 1, 2015 through January 31, 2016.

This is your opportunity to change health plans or to enroll for the first time. Under federal law, most people are now required to have health insurance. If you do not have health insurance, you may have to pay a penalty to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) when you file your taxes. Some people will not have to pay this penalty if they qualify for a special circumstance. These special circumstances are called exemptions. If you have been notified that your health insurance policy will be or has been cancelled, and you believe that health plan options available through the Marketplace are unaffordable, click here to learn more about a hardship exemption that would allow you to enroll in a catastrophic plan. Click hereto learn more about other types of exemptions and how to apply for these exemptions.
